Listen to Your Heart!

Cardiac health and wellness

The steady thump of your heart reassures you constantly of its never ending workload: pushing gallons of blood to carry oxygen, cells, hormones and other essential compounds to every nook and cranny of the body. Have you, in turn, assured your heart that you are caring for its wellness? Here are five ways to show your heart you care:

Take Thirty!

Thirty minutes is often all it takes to ensure you get a good cardio workout for your body. Of course, if you have time for more, that’s great too! A regular workout or light exercise session, according to your body’s needs, helps strengthen your heart and burn excess fat.

Watch your Mid-Section

Waist size is an excellent indicator of heart health, and in a lot of cases a better indicator than weight. A larger waist size, 35 inches or more, can lead to risk factors for heart disease such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes. Eliminating belly fat rests largely on diet though, which makes a high-fibre, nutritious diet important. Watch your carb intake, particularly when it comes to processed food like chips and cookies.

Don’t Skip your Breakfast

There’s a reason mom insisted on breakfast! It’s important to start your day with a belly full of goodies. Include a couple of eggs and heart healthy fats such as avocado and nuts. Add to that a fruit-veggie juice to charge your system and you just can’t go wrong.

Beat the Stress!

Stress is another precursor to heart disease. Take a little time out for yourself, whether it’s for exercise or to pursue any of your interests. Consider going out with your friends, spend time with your pet, or spend time in the garden with your favourite book and a cup of coffee. All of it can do wonders for your heart health!

Doing all you need for your heart health but wondering if there’s
anything more to do? There is! Opt for cardiac health check to monitor
your heart health and understand areas of concern.
